The protest movement that began with anti-corporate greed rallies on Wall Street has made its way to Hartford.
The “Occupy Hartford” demonstrators camped out this past weekend at the corner of Broad Street and Farmington Avenue.
Several dozen people kicked off the demonstrations with a march last Friday evening to the Old Statehouse from that Asylum Hill location, which was chosen because of its proximity to the headquarters of several insurance companies including Aetna and Hartford Financial Services Group Inc.
Holding signs with slogans such as “Tax the Rich,” and “A Corporation is not a Person” the marchers chanted “We are the 99 percent.”
Protesters brought up a number of social issues including what they are calling corporate greed, unemployment, insurance reform and environmental preservation.
