XL Group’s surety unit is expanding with the appointment of James Hoyas as vice president and executive underwriter. He is based in XL’s Baltimore office and reports to Bill Mills, senior vice president of underwriting for surety.
Prior to joining XL, Hoyas held various surety underwriting and management positions with the United States Fidelity and Guarantee Company, St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Company, and Zurich. He has Associate in Fidelity and Surety Bonding (AFSB) and the Associate in General Insurance (AINS) designations.
XL Group companies have approximately 60 offices in more than 20 countries with 4,000 employees. As of Sept. 30, 2011, the company had consolidated assets of $46.6 billion and consolidated shareholders equity of $10.9 billion. XL’s insurance segment provides property, casualty, professional and specialty insurance products.
