A great point. What’s their stance on the Carolinas or other areas along the coast. Yet they will write in the Midwest and Southeast lands that are known for tornados that can take out entire towns….but then upon renewal–pull the plug. It makes about as much sense as the Cubs winning the World Series.
LOL at the red check. A Cubby fan must have read your post.
It seems Allstate is extremely gun shy when it comes to homeowners insurance. They took away the ability for their agents to write new business in California. They can write renters and condos but no HO-3. Their agents have to outside options and those are companies that don’t write auto. Tell you what quality they are. I almost feel as bad for them as I do Florida agents with PIP and third party liability, almost.
Wow, I finally got to use that Dislike selection. Is there a limit on how many times I click on it or is this a Pay-per-Click site for Insurance Journal?
Wow…that dissenting judge is making a pretty awful argument. I mean…just forget the fact that a hurricane is a real actual thing, and forget that we’ve had record hurricane seasons in 3 of the last 4 years, and forget that just this year there was a hurricane that reached farther north than Maryland – Allstate is a private company and as long as they’re not discriminating against any particular group of person, who gives a crap where they will and won’t write business? How is that a matter for the Maryland Supreme Court? And how can a judge go through this lawsuit and come out on the side where he believes it’s not lawful to stop writing insurance in a purely geographical area?
NY has solved the coastal problem by increasing deductibles higher than the average claim paid out in our last Hurricane[ Gloria] and by raising premium as if higher deductibles were not in existance and ALSO allowing restricting of the market for near shore customers. The Insurance Dept was too afraid of the total loss of market to do much more than rubber stamp the changes. They have now merged with the banking dept who oversaw the recent banking crisis.
Now that deductibles are soo high that may seniors cant afford them and with federal disaster loans unavailable to pay for deductibles ,we are in for a rea l problem when we get a real Hurricane . Have we lost all memory of what our industry was founded on? share the risk ,not total risk avaoidance. Too many MBA’s and not enough underwriters running our business today?
Attacked by Godzilla? There goes my sleep tonight.
first mayhem, now godzilla, what next??
Mothra? Them!?
Them!! The ants that had teeth! Too funny!! I’m glad I am not the only one who remembers that movie!!

A Cubby fan who didn’t appreciate the truth to your analogy. Oh, look, I got one too.

Use it all you want, once everytime you enter the cite. Once there are 10 more negative than positive you won’t be able to see the comment. Go Cubs!
PS I’m your third green check. Funny post.
