GEICO Appoints VP of Claims in Chevy Chase, Md., Home Office

GEICO, a Chevy Chase, Md.-headquartered auto insurance unit of Berkshire Hathaway, appointed Rick Hoagland as vice president of claims based in the home office. He succeeds Nancy Pierce, who was recently named regional vice president in GEICO’s Fredericksburg, Va., office.

Hoagland began his GEICO career in 1994 as a telephone claims representative in GEICO’s Fredericksburg, Va., office. He took on assignments in sales, service, underwriting, and was selected for GEICO’s executive assistant program.

In 2009, Hoagland was elected assistant vice president of claims in GEICO’s Midwest regional operations in Macon, Ga. and was later named assistant vice president of underwriting there in 2010.

GEICO (Government Employees Insurance Company) is a member of the Berkshire Hathaway family of companies and is the third-largest private passenger auto insurer in the United States. GEICO handles auto insurance coverage for 11 million private passenger auto policies and insures more than 17.5 million vehicles.

In addition to auto insurance, GEICO offers customers insurance products for their motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), travel trailers and motorhomes (RVs). Coverage for life, boats, homes and apartments is available through the GEICO Insurance Agency. The company also offers commercial auto insurance and personal umbrella protection.
