What a senseless tragedy. I cannot imagine why someone has to be out operating a hot rod of a boat before sunrise, already loaded to the ‘gills’. The skels should be locked up just for being stupidly ignorant, though idiocy isn’t a crime, but it moves the grade of crime a notch or two higher I guess.
The person could have been out all night drinking. In Long Island there a many bars that are right on the water and you can tie up your boat on their docks. Especially in the Great South Bay where this accident took place. MANY MANY ON THE WATER BARS AND RESTAURANTS
I must have missed something in the article as I didn’t see where the boat that struck the fishing boat was described as a performance boat. Having said that, I agree that the guy was stupidly ignorant and deserves to be locked up.
Unfortunately we had the same type accident last week in Georgia on Lake Lanier, and two little boys lost their lives. Drunk boater hit a pontoon boat with 9 people on board. They had not found the second boy’s body as of this morning.
If you get into a car accident and kill someone it is called manslaughter, and off to jail you go. Is it the same for killing someone in a watercraft accident? I would hope so.

I understand HOW it happens – having put a few owner’s kids through college – I just don’t get the WHY.

Research through Google found other articles – the boat was a Skeeter – high-performance catamaran. Great boat in need of an intelligent operator.
