I wish more companies would take such an approach. Settling any claim where money is not due likens to offering free drugs to someone. Unfortunately the penalty if a claim is incorrectly denied is a real costly issue.
Never mind the cost, they got people out of society (for a least a little while) who were willing to risk killing or severly injuring innocent people for insurance money, or money period. How callous can some people be. There may have been children or people with existing physical issues sitting in those stopped vehicles. I don’t think the sentences were enough. I question their right to be called “human being”.
Bluemax, most if not all of the major insurers have SIU investigagtors. My experience is that, once the SIU investigation is complete, local law enforcement confirms the investigation, and it is sent on to district attorney and possibly the Attorney Generals office, and occasionally the US Atty. From the district attorney on up, those posts are either elected or appointed. Whichever, that is where politics enters the decision own whether to proceed with indictment or not. And that is where the prosecutory process gets bogged down or ends. It is politics at its worst!!
