I wish the reporters who write about this would stop calling it “insurance” as though it were private home insurance. It’s a federal government subsidy program wherein taxpayer money is used to artificially reduce flood rates for people who choose to live in flood zones. In other words they get cheap coverage and everyone smart enough to live outside of the flood areas pays for it. The Feds put the word out to cut costs so that’s what the WYO companies do. This has nothing to do with “insurance” or the business of insurance.
