VAIA Offers Free Insurance License Training for Veterans and Their Spouses

June 5, 2015

The Virginia Association of Insurance Agents (VAIA) — an affiliated organization of the Independent Insurance Agents of Virginia (IIAV) — has announced that it will provide free pre-licensing insurance training classes for veterans and their spouses.

Classes are regularly scheduled in Cedar Bluff, Chesapeake, Manassas and Richmond, Virginia and are taught by industry professionals. VAIA said its pre-licensing classes have one of the highest passing rates in the state.

“Our veterans were there when we needed them and insurance professionals are there when clients need them the most so there is a lot of synergy our industry can offer,” said Cindy Amick, VAIA president and executive vice president with S L Nusbaum Insurance Agency in Norfolk, Virginia. “The insurance industry is a great profession and is well-suited for our veterans and on-duty trailing spouses. They can take this training program and have an excellent career no matter where they go.”

This insurance training program, which normally costs $300 to take, is done in a three or four day format depending on the city. After completing the class, students are prepared to sit for their Virginia insurance license exam. Upon completion and after passing the licensing exam, students are able to apply for a number of different positions including producers/sales professionals, account managers and customer service professionals. Students may also find that this training provides a good background for insurance industry positions that do not require a license.

“We’re all asked how we can thank our veterans and also how we can help the spouses of our currently serving military. The insurance industry provides an outstanding, rewarding and high paying profession that they can benefit from no matter where they are stationed or retire,” said Bob Bradshaw, president and CEO of the Independent Insurance Agents of Virginia. “We’re excited to provide this opportunity where we can not only help them get licensed but also land an excellent job and profession.”

VAIA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit education foundation that provides insurance education and training programs to facilitate insurance literacy and awareness of career opportunities.
