Utica First Insurance Company in Oriskany, New York, notified its independent agency partners last week that the company will withdraw from the Write Your Own (WYO) Program, a cooperative undertaking of the insurance industry and the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
“After 20+ years of providing flood insurance under the NFIP Write-Your-Own program, we have made the decision to discontinue participation effective Aug 1, 2015,” the company stated on July 14.
Utica First said that to provide its agents with a seamless transition, the company has received approval from the Federal Insurance Administration and FEMA to automatically transfer Utica First flood policies to New Hampshire Insurance Company on Aug. 1.
And since both Utica First and New Hampshire use National Flood Services (NFS) as their full service vendor for policy and claims service, there will be no disruption or interruption of service from this transition to the agencies or the policyholders, Utica First said.
There are currently 78 companies participating in the WYO program, according to the FEMA website.
Utica First is a regional property/casualty carrier specializing in small contractors, restaurants, retail stores, offices, and homeowners insurance. Utica First products are offered exclusively through independent agents and brokers.
