New Jersey Transit is getting $71 million from the federal government to pay for rebuilding and replacing equipment damaged by Superstorm Sandy.
The agency and New Jersey’s Congressional delegation announced the award Aug. 21.
The money comes from the Federal Transit Administration and is part of a $3.7 billion second round of funding for Sandy relief.
NJ Transit has received about $1.7 billion so far.
The latest round of funding will go toward repairing and replacing the Hoboken Terminal power supply as well as replacing an electrical substation in Hoboken and moving it to more resilient location.
The money also will be used to pay for replacing substations in Bay Head and at an operations center in Kearny.
