Does this sound like NY or what? Those on the left have argued that Tort Reform wouldn’t have lowered healthcare costs. I would argue that NY is the prime example of high healthcare costs and lack of Tort Reform is one of the prime reasons. A doctor paying $179,000 for Malpractice Insurance????
What’s missing from this discussion is the unnecessary $’s that physicians and hospitals have already paid, in the form of higher than required rates, and most likely, claims expenses. This isn’t a case for tort reform, but Albany reform. Does anyone doubt that costs can be effectively lowered if a free market is encouraged to function in Medical Malpractice in NY, which is does not now? Not doomsday necessarily if effective management of PRI is installed and allowed to gradually bring about the necessary rates, coupled with cost efficiencies.

Agent,
I agree with you 100% that NY and more states need tort reform.
Good for you Ron. Tort Reform, Albany reform, Governor reform, tax reform. No wonder 500,000 people have fled from your liberal state.
