I’m glad to see Massachusetts did the right thing. My company removed hundreds of ice dams in the Boston area this past winter, and we saw exactly the kind of interior damage that Mapfre tried to wiggle out of covering.
Insurance companies rarely cover even part of preventative ice dam removal. So if they want to slap on a deductible before covering any of the resulting damage, they’re putting homeowners in an impossible situation. Of course, you the homeowner can and should rake the snow off your roof routinely, but sometimes (like in this past winter) even that isn’t always enough.
