Hey Pennsylvania Police, If you see someone driving down the road with their head down rather than looking straight ahead, I think there is a good chance they are texting while driving.

Frankly, I am mystified as to why so many people actually do text while driving; they know they shouldn’t do it but thinking is not one of the skills required to operated a car, or at least that is how folks approach it. My kids were all guilty of taking driving for granted. Three of the five all had “accidents” within the first year of driving legally, all of which could have been avoided. the most common offense is underestimating how far the other guy is before pulling out. They were too busy to take the time to think it out, and decided they could “make it”. This is probably the number one result of distracted driving…or in the case cited in the article, they are too busy to actually do the thing called “DRIVING”. Being at the wheel is not enough to operate a car; you have to have you mind on what you are doing and it is often said that no one can serve two masters, so pick your thing: DRIVE or TEXT but don’t think you can do both at once. End of story.

Good post Stush. I think there is more awareness now on texting while driving, but there are still a great number that do it and think they can handle it. The #1 in the world pro golfer Jordan Spieth made a commercial recently and he is big on cell phone use since he is young (22). He puts his cell in the glove compartment when he drives and doesn’t take it out until he gets where he is going. I hope other young people and some older people learn by his example.

Stush, I don’t know if you saw the other article about traffic deaths being up in 2015 over 2014. Biggest reason is human error. Can we hazard a guess that it is mostly distracted driving from cell use? What an epidemic.
