Ouch!! Dear Uber, when you thumb your nose at cease and desist notices and other regulations and then are “shocked’ at the fines, it is just coming around. You are not above the law and regulations that everyone else must abide by in each state.

How about we add up all the money saved by Uber and their drivers by keeping drunk drivers OFF the roads…. subtract that from that crazy fine and we’ll call it even. As a PROUD Uber driver I can tell you that we have saved lives, we have stopped intoxicated people from getting behind the wheel of their car, and we have safely gotten people home. Let’s put this into perspective. The cab companies operate without working fare calculators OR credit card machines… and have, many times, had someone go to the ATM while they’re on the ride with them because the cabbie only takes cash. Let’s check out ALL of our rideshare programs and make sure everyone is in compliance.

I appreciate your comments but a taxi cab must have licensing in place, tags in place and jump through many hoops to operate. Uber is told what has to be in place to operate legally and they use the “we are not a transportation company, we are an online service – your laws/regulations do not apply to us”. A livery service is still a livery service and when Uber was specifically told to stop until in compliance, they made the choice to continue. The fine is the consequence of their actions.

Valid points on both sides. They were told to stop and didnt. Uber does keep drunks off the road and want a level playing field. IN todays political environment, they may never get it unless they buy it off the books.

Another 8-digit fine incurred by Uber! And yet Business Insurance awarded the Risk Manager of the Year to Uber’s Gus Fuldner, who is being praised for his work, all 2 years of it as an insurance novice at Uber! Give me a break “Business Insurance”, sure he’s a sharp guy and is dealing with livery issues state-by-state, but he and Uber have a long way to go before giving him/them any awards! The continued fines on a weekly basis only reinforce my opinion.
