Richard Poppa, president and CEO of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New York (IIABNY), has received the Vincent A. Alba Lifetime Achievement Award from the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of Suffolk County (IIABSC).
IIABSC presented the award during its annual installation dinner, held May 17 in Patchogue, New York.
IIABSC presents the Alba Award each year to “an outstanding individual, who, through many years of dedication and hard work, has left an irrefutable mark within the national and New York State associations and the American agency system as a whole.”
Poppa has led IIABNY, New York’s oldest insurance producer trade association, since 1996. He has announced plans to retire in December.
Presenting the award, former IIABNY Chair of the Board Tom Crowley said Poppa has led IIABNY “with wit, wisdom, integrity, and has always stood out amongst his peers around the country.”
“There isn’t a state executive more respected and admired than Dick and his departure certainly will be felt,” Crowley said. “He has left us with a great staff, great processes and a great leadership example to be followed.”
Poppa took the helm at IIABNY following stints in senior leadership positions with the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of California, the Independent Insurance Agents of Indiana, and the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America.
