I actually think there are fewer criminals like this in the industry than in other industries. Stories like this, or where brokers pocket premium money and give out fake policies are not as prevalent as they could be. You hear about far more fraud in medicine, real estate, and far more in general small business. I know of a ton of small business bookkeepers who have stolen money; some to steal and some to pay for things like medical expenses, emergencies, etc. Insurance has a lot more to go through to be able to do this though, so that probably contributes to lessening it.
White collar deviance is actually fairly consistent across the professions. I doubt that your anecdotal evidence that there is less in insurance markets is true.
Insurance – this business attracts a lot of grifters. I worked for a couple of punks for a while until they showed their true colors – dreadful.
Served the industry honorably for more than 30 years and now I am glad I am out. Thankfully most people in the biz are decent and honest.
He’ll be in prison just long enough to plan is move to “Flaaada” just like the rest of the NY crooks.
Agent, that may have been your funniest line ever!
