I for one am hoping that the YMCA did everything they could to provide a safe camp experience and that the accident was something that just couldn’t have been prevented. I hate reading where the camp or an employee or the scout master did something boneheaded that caused a camper to be injured or killed.
I guess that statistically speaking, with some 7M kids and teens attending camps every year, that someone is bound to be injured or something terrible happen. Fortunately it doesn’t happen that often and when it does, of course, it becomes news. Those 7M young people, if not at camp probably have a higher mortality rate just doing everyday activities in and around their home towns and cities.
I certainly feel strongly for the parents of any child that has to get that phone call.
