The Hilb Group Builds Virginia Presence with Six July Acquisitions

By | July 19, 2021

The Hilb Group (THG) is building its presence in its home state with six acquisitions of Virginia-based agencies so far this month. The acquisitions were effective July 1.

“We’re always looking to grow, especially in areas where we already have a presence,” THG CEO Ricky Spiro told Insurance Journal. “These latest agencies complement our existing Mid-Atlantic team and help drive our growth strategy throughout Virginia.”

This comes as THG, which is headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, and serves as a property/casualty and employee benefits insurance brokerage and advisory firm, has already completed more than 100 acquisitions as part of its national growth strategy and now has more than 100 offices in more than 20 states.

As part of its latest expansion in Virginia, THG acquired Manassas-based Harvey Insurance Agency, Salem-based Ryan Harris Insurance and Financial Services Inc., Virginia Beach-based Mayo Insurance Agency Inc., Williamsburg Insurance Agency LLC, Richmond-based Ronnie Shriner Insurance Agency, Mechanicsville-based Easley Hedrick Insurance & Financial and Roanoke-based Keith Ghaphery Insurance and Associates Inc.

The agencies are all multi-line insurance agencies that provide a range of offerings for clients. The agency principals and their teams of insurance professionals will be joining THG’s Mid-Atlantic regional operations.

“When we make an acquisition, we not only acquire great people and leaders, but an agency name with a longstanding history in its local market and community,” Spiro said. “We believe this brand equity is very important and valuable. This is certainly the case in each of these six acquisitions.”

With this in mind, Spiro said that any decision to transition the agencies to the THG brand will be a collective one made over time and in support of the customers and communities served.

Indeed, he emphasized that this expansion in Virginia is about the people – a strategy that the company seeks to continue as it grows.

“Our growth strategy is focused on recruiting great people and great agencies to join our team,” he said.

He said in the future, the company wants to continue to invest and build its offerings and operations in all markets where it has a presence.

“We are really excited about where we are as a company,” he said. “We continue to add great teams of associates who are re-energized about coming together to build a better agency and make a lasting impact personally, professionally and in the lives of the customers and communities we serve.”
