If there was truly a racist intent, it seems unlikely they would have posted such on a sign that could be used as evidence of such.
I think “Juneteenth” is a vague name for the holiday that has recently been adopted. Can’t anyone think of a more descriptive name?!
By the way, I don’t use “July 4th”, but rather say “Independence Day” because it is clear and descriptive for foreigners to understand our day of DECLARATION of INDEPENDENCE from Great Britain. Likewise, Memorial Day (like the UK’s Remembrance Day), Veterans Day, New Year Day, and Labor Day are accurately labeled. Halloween and Thanksgiving are slightly less descriptive, but adequate names.
Does anyone reading this have a better name for this newest Federal holiday?
“The day news of the Emancipation Proclamation of Jan 1 finally made its way to Texas and they learned slaves are no longer legal to own” is a little too wordy. I think Juneteenth is the way to go.
And if it takes you ten seconds to explain what it is, that shouldn’t be a big deal (unless you — NOT you specifically, Polar, but the general you — are trying to actively avoid discussing slave ownership)
Juneteenth has been a thing for over a century; maybe consider…learning American history? I know there may some uncomfortable stuff in there, but I believe in you and your ability to absorb it!
Polar finds nothing wrong with a obviously racist sign. Shock. Racist old white man who’s proven his racism time and time again is of COURSE going to see nothing wrong with a racist post, and argue against consequences for such racism.
No one cares what you think about Juneteenth. This isn’t about you and it never has been.
Please feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the whole point is that Juneteenth is the celebration of when the news of the Emancipation Proclamation finally got to the enslaved people in Texas letting them know they were free (more than 2 years after the Emancipation Proclamation). It’s a huge deal, as it should be, and I’m glad people are finally recognizing it. If that makes me “woke”, so be it.
Doesn’t take a genius to realize that there are some things you just don’t joke about. The owners of this agency should’ve known better.

This is one of several federal holidays that we remain open on. I’m betting Mr. Reed wished he had chosen to stay open as well.

Post your Agency Name and maybe they will.
So consequences for clear racism are “woke”? Sounds like the racists just don’t like being called out.
Wish I knew who you were so I could make sure never to to business with you.
How about Emancipation Proclamation Day? Juneteenth doesn’t do it justice.

The owner didn’t put the sign up, an employee did. I hope she was fired.
If the owner didn’t remove it themselves after noticing the sign, that’s tacit support of the employee.
Screwed themselves, and ensnared a similar named agency in southern Maine too. Idiots
