A former Massachusetts county employee pleaded guilty yesterday in federal court in Boston to embezzling from a Barnstable County employee labor union.
Kenneth Mattoon, of West Yarmouth, pleaded guilty to embezzlement of labor union assets. According to prosecutors, Mattoon admitted that he stole $21,155 and that this amount is subject to forfeiture.
According to prosecutors, between May 2020 and May 2025, Mattoon embezzled funds from the Barnstable Massachusetts Department of Public Works Employees Local Number 3003 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, AFL-CIO. Mattoon was an officer of the labor union at the time.
U.S. District Court Chief Judge Denise J. Casper scheduled sentencing for April 15, 2026.
The charge of embezzlement from a labor union provides for a sentence of up to five years in prison, three years of supervised release; and a $250,000 fine.
