Homeowners can now obtain insurance quotes from Plymouth Rock Home Assurance through a “natural” conversation with ChatGPT, the artificial intelligence chatbot created by OpenAI.
The insurer claims it creates a “faster, simpler, and more accessible way to shop for coverage.” It eliminates the need to navigate multiple websites and complete multiple forms.
The chatbot is now available across all states where Plymouth Rock operates, including Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New York, and New Hampshire.
According to the announcement, Plymouth Rock becomes the first U.S. insurer to offer home insurance directly through ChatGPT. However, it is not alone among insurance entities in the race to deploy ChatGPT.
Last week Spain’s Mapfre announced it was taking a 38.9% stake in the Spanish insurtech Tuio, which earlier this year received approval from OpenAI for the first insurance provider–built AI application on ChatGPT devoted to home insurance.
That deal came just a week after Mapfre revealed its $1.5 billion deal to acquire U.S.-based Safety Insurance Group, which is a competitor to Plymouth Rock in the Northeast.
Mapfre said it believes that AI will bring considerable change to the insurance industry. The insurer also noted that AI applications can help reduce the insurance protection gap by facilitating insurance access for traditionally underserved groups.
Also earlier this year, the national digital insurance agency Insurify launched a ChatGPT app to allow consumers to compare and shop for car insurance.
Another Massachusetts-based insurer, Liberty Mutual, announced a May 2026 launch of a conversational AI auto insurance quoting application on ChatGPT.
The app places Liberty Mutual “among the early movers in AI-mediated distribution” but, according to a report from the AI-tracking platform Evident, the channel remains unproven. Still, Evident points out, similar activity from Allstate, Aviva, and AXA suggests insurers are already preparing for a future in which discovery, comparison, and purchase journeys are shaped by large language models (LLMs) and autonomous agents.”
