International reinsurer Swiss Re announced the opening of a new branch office in Washington D.C., establishing a closer physical presence to policymakers and associations in the nation’s capitol.

Cosette R. Simon, a Swiss Re Vice president for Government and Industry Relations, will head the new office. She is also a member of the Swiss Re America Holding Corp. Board of Directors and occupies a leadership position among industry advocates, having chaired various groups for the American Council of Life Insurers, Reinsurance Association of America and the Health Insurance Association of America.

“Cosy Simon’s wealth of experience combined with this new presence in Washington will enhance Swiss Re’s ability to effectively work with government and industry agencies,” commented Jacques E. Dubois, Swiss Re America’s Chairman and CEO. “We look forward to furthering our dialogue with government leaders on important public policy issues such as climate change, tort reform and terrorism risk.”

Simon previously served as director of government relations for Lincoln Re, the Ft. Wayne, Indiana, reinsurance division of Lincoln National Corporation, which Swiss Re acquired in 2001. She is a former City Controller and Director of Finance and Administration for the City of Fort Wayne and served as a member of the city’s Board of Public Health and Safety.

“Our clients and the businesses and individuals they serve are affected today by more diverse and complex regulatory and legislative issues than ever before,” Simon stated. “Our new office is a key link in providing access for decision-makers to the vast range of knowledge and expertise on managing capital and risk available at Swiss Re.”
