Re/insurance Industry Social Media ‘MySlipcase’ Marks 9 Months

March 7, 2013

MySlipcase, a social media platform developed specifically for the global insurance and reinsurance industry, reported high growth in the nine months since it was launched.

The company said its website now has 342 insurance and reinsurance member organizations in 38 countries, including five major London market players – Willis, Catlin, Liberty Syndicates, the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) and BMS, which have been the first to take up unique company pages on the site.

MySlipcase said there are more than 1200 active members on the site, which is free to join for individuals, with 70 percent coming from the London Market, 25 percent from New York and Bermuda, and the remainder from other parts of the world.

The company’s pages allow businesses to display content such as press releases, white papers, financial results, publications, photographs and videos.

“The re/insurance industry is embracing social media and real momentum is building within the market to use these tools, said Alex Hearn, company founder and a former Willis broker.

He said that “social platforms are segregating to become more specific and the re/insurance industry is in many ways leading the way.” He contrasted this success to banking and shipping, where he said comparable sites are less developed in their functionality and membership base.
