October 21, 2014

Hardy Underwriting Asia Pte Ltd (Hardy Asia), a subsidiary of CNA Financial Corporation, has promoted Chris Wright as director and principal officer for Hardy Asia. (Hardy is a specialist underwriting business operating within Lloyd’s of London.)

In this role, Chris will help develop the strategies to continue Hardy Asia growth in 2015, as well as have responsibility for managing the Asia office. His appointment is subject to the approval of the Monetary Authority of Singapore.

Chris began his career at Hardy in London in July of 2008 as a property treaty underwriter. In 2009, he moved to the Bermuda office to establish an underwriting presence and develop a North American focused treaty portfolio working with local and US brokers.

He became head of the Bermuda office in February 2013 and continues to serve as a director of that business.

Two Senior P&C Underwriters Appointed

In a separate announcement, Hardy Underwriting appointed two new senior hires to the underwriting team: Matthew Bond as senior underwriter, power generation, and Miles Osorio as senior underwriter, direct & facultative (D&F) property.

Previous to Hardy, Bond was class underwriter for the power and industrial risks portfolio at Mitsui. He is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer and worked as an engineer in the nuclear industry for three years before moving into the insurance industry in 1997, initially as a loss prevention engineer at AXA Corporate Solutions. He joined Mitsui in 2002 and headed up their Risk Engineering division before moving into underwriting in 2010.

Bond, along with Ross Barlow and Laurence Talbot, also formally of Mitsui, will be responsible for building Hardy’s power generation account as part of the broader engineering market sector.

Osorio will be leading the D&F property team at Hardy and joins the company from Montpelier Syndicate 5151 where he was head of individual risk, international property. He began his career with Willis in 1991, brokering worldwide D&F property business. He then joined Marsh where he was a senior vice president and ran the international D&F property team with particular responsibility for Asia and the Americas.
