Markel International, the specialist insurer, has appointed Andy Lane, senior underwriter, in its newly created marine equipment business, part of its marine, energy and property division.
Lane joins David Stallard, underwriter, who started his role earlier in the year. With a focus on marine and subsea equipment, they will also provide cover for inland contractor’s plant and cargo.
Lane has 20 years’ insurance experience most recently as class underwriter for marine equipment at Skuld, and before that in senior underwriting positions at Tokio Marine, CNA and RSA.
Stallard has 17 years’ experience in the London marine market, both as an underwriter and a broker.
Their appointments follow recent additions to the marine and energy team to support the development of Markel’s marine trades business and its ports and terminals business, the company said in a statement.
Commenting on the appointments Paul Jenks, managing director of Markel’s marine, energy and property division, said: “Andy and David are successful market leaders in this specialist area of marine coverage. As our customer’s marine and transportation businesses become increasingly diversified, we have been actively broadening and extending the range of coverage that we offer so that we can provide them with the comprehensive service they are looking for.”
