AIG Taps Barron from PwC as Head of International Government Affairs

January 19, 2018

American International Group (AIG) announced that Ed Barron will join the company as head of International Government Affairs, effective March 2018.

In this new role, Barron will be responsible for developing a cohesive, global perspective and engagement strategy for legislative and regulatory matters relevant to driving the future success of the company.

Based in London, Barron will report to Tom Leonardi, executive vice president, Government Affairs, Public Policy and Communications.

Barron will lead the management and monitoring of AIG’s governmental policy outside the United States, and provide strategic counsel as this relates to AIG’s international businesses, said AIG in a statement.

He will work closely with the regulatory team, overseen by Executive Vice President and General Counsel Lucy Fato. The team maintains responsibility for advising on legal and regulatory compliance issues and handling day-to-day management of regulatory matters.

Barron is joining AIG from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). He has over 15 years of experience in international government affairs in the insurance sector, having worked directly with the industry’s leading supervisors and advised a number of insurance companies. Barron joined PwC in 2002 as a director and has held senior roles in the Global Insurance Regulation practice for the last nine years. He is a graduate of the University of Bristol.

“As a global insurer with numerous regulators, Ed’s experience in bringing together a comprehensive approach to best-in-class communications and engagement with our diverse network of stakeholders will be invaluable as we position AIG for the future as a growing, profitable leader in the insurance industry,” said Leonardi.
