Marsh insurance broking and consulting subsidiary Jelf reports it has completed its previously announced acquisition of Clark Thomson, Scotland’s largest independent insurance broker.
Established in 1965, Clark Thomson is headquartered in Perth and has offices in Dundee, Glasgow, Inverness, Kirkwall, Oban, Elgin, Thurso, and Nairn. With more than 200 employees, Clark Thomson provides insurance broking services to small and medium-sized (SME) businesses, with particular expertise in the agriculture, renewable energy, food and drink, and retail sectors across Scotland. It also sells personal lines insurance for individuals and families.
Chipping Sodbury, England-based Jelf is a leading UK insurance broker in the mid-size and SME company sector, with almost 3,000 colleagues serving 250,000 clients from over 75 locations.
Jelf said it will combine its existing Scottish operations and Clark Thomson into a single business unit. The combined business in Scotland will, subject to regulatory approvals, be led by Ben Bailey, managing director of Clark Thomson, and a management team drawn from across Clark Thomson and Jelf.
Phil Barton, CEO of Jelf, said adding Clark Thomson “significantly strengthens” the advice and products Jelf can provide to individuals, SMEs and mid-size companies.
Marsh acquired Jelf Group plc in 2015 and Bluefin Insurance Group Ltd. in December 2016 then branded the combination as Jelf. Both firms were community brokers with a network of regional offices across the UK.
