“The Corporation of Lloyd’s made a first move in this direction in February 2017 by prohibiting its employees from drinking alcohol during business hours. There was much grumbling about the move at the time.”
All seriousness aside, did that quote make any one else laugh? ha
In a limited sample size, two decades ago, it seemed to me that much imbibing was done during and after business hours by Lloyds employees and others who met with them on accounts. Much was done at great places to eat (e.g. chop houses), not just pubs. Drinking during business hours is acceptable if done in moderation. But, even if done in moderation, it might explain the results I’ve seen on some syndicates.
I did not think to compare the two from a business perspective. And I don’t think the two can be compared in this situation. Even if you were to smoke “in moderation”, you would still be impaired long after you smoke whereas, majority, will not be impaired after a beer or two.
However, could you imagine: after a puff or two, your important business meeting would turn into an all you can eat buffet.. so it’s not all bad ;)

“Drinking during business hours is acceptable if done in moderation” Would you argue the same holds true for marijuana?
Good question, Rosenblatt.
