Indiana’s Forethought Financial Names New CFO, General Counsel

Indianapolis-based Forethought Financial Group, Inc. today announced that K. Lowell Short, Jr. has joined the company as chief financial officer of Forethought Financial Group and president of the life insurance subsidiaries and Mary L. Cavanaugh as executive vice president and general counsel. Both will report to Forethought President and CEO, John Graf.

“We are extremely pleased to have Lowell and Mary join our team as we begin to build Forethought Financial Group,” Graf said. “Their appointments give Forethought significant experience and leadership as we build the foundation for our future success within the financial services industry.”

Prior to joining Forethought, Short was a senior financial officer of the Conseco Companies where he held various finance and accounting positions over the last 19 years. Most recently, he was senior vice president of Finance where he was responsible for investor relations, financial compliance, statutory reporting, and certain regulatory and rating agency relationships. Short began his career at the Indianapolis office of Coopers & Lybrand, nowPricewaterhouseCoopers, specializing in life insurance.

Cavanaugh joins Forethought from AIG Retirement Services, the retirement products division of American International Group, where she served as senior vice president and chief legal officer. She was also responsible for the legal and compliance operations of the AIG Advisor Group and SunAmerica Asset Management. Cavanaugh was formerly with American General and was an associate general counsel of Prudential Financial for 19 years.
