American Community Names Chairman, President, Board Member

The Board of Directors of American Community Mutual Insurance Company, based in Livonia, Mich., named Arthur O. Dummer, chairman of the Board, and Michael E. Tobin as the company’s new president and chief executive officer. John C. Colpean was elected to the position of Board member.

Dummer was elected as chairman after serving more than six years as Board member. Currently, he is the president of The Donner Company in Utah. With an insurance background spanning four decades, he is also a director of American National Insurance Company of Galveston, Texas, and executive director of The Utah Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Association.

Tobin began his relationship with American Community more than three years ago when he was appointed to the Board, while serving as a consultant and attorney in the healthcare industry. He has held executive positions for various Blue Cross Blue Shield plans.

Colpean began his relationship with American Community as a consultant in 2000 and brings a wealth of knowledge to his Board member position. He served as legal counsel to the Michigan Legislature for over nine years. After entering private practice in 1988, he concentrated on matters pertaining to insurance regulation, transactions and litigation. Colpean currently serves as counsel to the Michigan Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Association. He also has served on the Insurance Law Committee of the State Bar of Michigan.
