Individuals who received disaster aid not specified as a loan should not be forced to pay it back. That is ludicrous. The government should just admit that it made a mistake and actually try to learn from it this time instead of further wasting taxpayer money trying to unrealistically recover it.

Maybe they can cut future expenses as well by not mailing me a notice of what my flood insurance renewal premium will be followed shortly thereafter by mailing me the renewal policy, but rather just mail me the darn policy (one and done). Cutting the mail expenses in half might help somewhat with the government waste in that regard, eh?

Errors are made and should be corrected so that other taxpayers don’t bear the burden of someone else getting government assistance inappropriately. Passing a law to make errors ok would make matters worse. It will add to the inefficiencies and cost of government; we already have enough of that. Reasonable payback terms should be given to these people who in good faith thought they qualified for this assistance, but didn’t. 30 days is not reasonable for this flood victim.
