A lawyer and a state chamber of commerce vice president says he is running for North Dakota insurance commissioner.
Jon Godfread is a Republican. He is vying for the seat being vacated by Adam Hamm, who announced in December that he will not seek re-election in 2016.
Democrats do not have a declared candidate for the position.
Godfread was born in Bismarck but grew up in Grand Forks. He has a law degree from the University of North Dakota.
