A St. Louis, Mo., jury has awarded $5.2 million in a wrongful death and personal injury lawsuit filed over a fatal tent collapse at a sports bar near Busch Stadium.
The verdict was announced on March 14. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that jurors awarded $2.4 million to the family of 58-year-old Alfred Goodman of Waterloo, Ill., who was killed when wind gusts of up to 50 mph knocked over a tent beside Kilroy’s Sports Bar on April 28, 2012.
The jury also awarded $2.8 million to be divided among seven others injured in the collapse, who joined Goodman’s family in the lawsuit alleging negligence on the part of bar owners.
An attorney for the bar owners says the storm came on so suddenly there was no time to warn patrons.
