The health insurer Anthem Inc. announced it has received approval from Indiana Department of Insurance Commissioner Stephen W. Robertson for the acquisition of Cigna HealthCare of Indiana Inc., a subsidiary of Cigna Corp.
On July 23, 2015 Anthem and Cigna entered into a definitive agreement whereby Anthem will acquire all outstanding shares of Cigna in a cash-and-stock transaction. The transaction continues to achieve key milestones and, with the recent action in Indiana, has now obtained regulatory clearance in 12 states.
The transaction has been overwhelmingly approved by over 99 percent of each of Anthem’s and Cigna’s shareholders, the company’s announcement said.
