Columbus, Ohio-based auto insurance startup, Root Insurance, has hired Jon Allison as its first general counsel.
Prior to joining Root, Allison served on the senior management team of CareSource, a regional non-profit managed health care plan. He was also the Ohio counsel for the Property and Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI), representing clients in licensing and other regulatory matters before the Ohio Department of Insurance. Beyond his private sector experience, Allison has dedicated a significant portion of his career to public service, including serving as chief of staff to Ohio Governor Bob Taft, managing the Ohio Department of Commerce, and serving in the Ohio Secretary of State’s office.
Root Insurance uses smartphone technology and data science to understand actual driving behavior, the primary factor in determining its auto insurance rates.
Currently, automobile coverage from Root Insurance is available to drivers in Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Arizona, Utah, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Texas. The company has plans to expand into more states.
