I know it’s cheaper to settle a wrongful death suit than an ongoing care suit, but if the plaintiff is / was 18 years old and will need ongoing support for the rest of her life, how far will $1.1M in net proceeds go?
Seems like the attorneys got the better of the deal. Now they can pay their tabs at the diner, while 20 years from now, the former plaintiff will be eating tuna salad. Or getting a new polyester blanket. But not both.
The amount of the settlement typically follows in line with the limits available. My guess is there was not significantly more on the table to go after.
