The family of a woman who died in 2012 after giving birth to twins at a suburban Chicago hospital has been awarded $4 million in a wrongful death lawsuit.
The family of 36-year-old Evelyn Robinson contended in a lawsuit against Ingalls Memorial Hospital that staff failed to administer drugs targeting a spike in a blood pressure.
Plaintiff’s attorney Elizabeth Kaveny says Robinson’s blood pressure rose after she gave birth to twin daughters at the Harvey, Illinois hospital. Kaveny says nurses alerted Robinson’s doctor when her blood pressure rose, but they failed to administer the drugs he prescribed.
Robinson suffered cardiac arrest that caused severe brain damage. Kaveny says her condition remained grave for two months before she died of heart failure.
A legal representative for the hospital didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
