A Sunday evening explosion in Archer-Daniels-Midland Co.’s processing complex in Decatur, Illinois, has injured at least eight people, according to the Decatur Fire Department.
The blaze was largely under control within a few hours, but a crew remains on standby to address remaining hot spots, Deputy Fire Chief Dan Kline said in a Monday interview. The fire spread to multiple buildings and some structural damage occurred, he said.
The explosion at ADM’s East Plant happened around 7:11 p.m. local time, the company said in a Sunday statement. Several employees were injured and transported to hospital. The company didn’t have a confirmed cause at the time, ADM said.
A company spokesperson said in a separate message that the facility affected Sunday was different from East Plant’s corn processing plant that had a fire in August.
