Aetna Inc. will sell group life insurance over the Internet, eliminating paperwork for employers and giving employees a range of options, including applying for additional life coverage or changing their beneficiary.
The company’s web-based Choose Life product is part of an industry trend toward e-commerce. The company already has a $1 billion group life business covering roughly 10 million Americans. The company hopes its new online product will help to tap the one-in-four U.S. households still without life insurance.
