November 1, 2000

William B. Hofmann, III, of Belmont, Mass., was inaugurated as president of the Independent Insurance Agents of America (IIAA) at the association’s Convention & InfoXchange in Orlando, Fla.

Hofmann, a partner at Provider Insurance Group Inc., with offices in Belmont, Brookline and Needham, Mass., will oversee the direction of the industry’s largest independent insurance agent trade association.

He succeeds Bill Houston, a branch manager of Riedman Insurance Corporation in Denver, Colo., who remains on the Executive Committee as immediate past president. Hofmann also was elected chairman of the IIAA Executive Committee. He began his tenure with the Committee in September 1995. Prior to serving on the Executive Committee, Hofmann chaired IIAA’s Education Committee for four years – receiving a 1994 presidential citation for his work, and served on IIAA’s Dues Study Task Force.

In his home state Hofmann is a past president and state national director for the Independent Insurance Agents of Massachusetts. In 1980, he received the Mr. Chairman Award from the American Association of Managing General Agents.

A husband, and father of two, Hofmann earned his MBA from Suffolk University in Boston and bachelor’s degree from Boston University. In his home community Hofmann has dedicated countless hours as a volunteer with the Boston Children’s Service, Belmont Youth Basketball, Red Cross, Belmont Religious Council, Chamber of Commerce and numerous others. He also serves the citizens of Belmont as an elected town meeting member, finance committee member, and registrar of voters.
