June 10, 2003

National Insurance Programs (NIP) has formed a new division to focus on the development and management of self-insurance vehicles for business groups.

NIP has appointed Barry Barron, division president and Lyn Winters, vice president/chief underwriting officer of the division’s healthcare group.

The new division will be responsible for working with business groups, agents and brokers to develop innovative self-insurance solutions. The division will also assume responsibility for the management and expansion of NIP’s established solutions for healthcare and public entity groups. These include Conventus Inter-Insurance Exchange, New Jersey’s only physician owned and governed medical malpractice insurance reciprocal; and the Garden State Municipal Joint Insurance Fund (GSMJIF), one of the largest joint insurance funds (JIF) in the State of New Jersey, insuring towns with more than 300,000 residents.

“Large corporations have been utilizing alternative risk solutions to manage their insurance costs for years,” said Richard Augustyn, CEO, National Insurance Programs. “Small businesses need to pool together to gain access to the alternative risk market and its benefits. NIP is uniquely positioned to help.”

Barron will lead the operations of the new division while Winters will utilize her medical malpractice underwriting expertise to manage the expansion of the division’s healthcare business.

Barron joins NIP following 25 years in leadership positions with Zurich North America, AIG and The St. Paul Companies.

Winters joins NIP with 25 years experience in various senior positions in underwriting at Princeton Insurance Company.
