Zurich North America announced that it has named Gary Kaplan Chief Underwriting Officer for Zurich North America Commercial and head of its Technical Center.
“Gary’s knowledge of the Zurich organization, his deep functional expertise and his strengths in building, leading and motivating teams make him uniquely qualified to lead the Technical Center,” stated Axel Lehmann, CEO of Zurich North America Commercial. “He was instrumental in the formation of that unit, while serving as its director for the property line of business.”
Kaplan most recently served as senior vice president and program executive for underwriting-related initiatives with the Strategic Initiatives Group (SIG), a part of Zurich North America Commercial. His tenure with Zurich also includes leading the underwriting of large property business for the former Diversified Products business unit and serving as senior vice president and director of Energy Property. He joined Zurich in 1995.
Earlier in his career, Kaplan held management roles with Home Insurance Company and Industrial Risk Insurers. He is a 1979 graduate of Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry.
