Its about time that some one stepped up to the plate to deal with these idiots. I am so sick and tired of having to spend days cleaning & rebuilding my pc after my kids have used it. I run 3 different spyware removers to get rid of them. (Each one seems to miss a few on its own).
It is downright wrong for these companies to be putting stuff on my property without my consent. More of these idiots need to be prosecuted for this crap.
Kudos to Spitzer for going after these scumbags. Unfortunately, my guess is this will just encourage these sleazoids to move offshore and out of US jurisdictions.
Certainly, user error adds to the spread of spyware, but these scumbags go to great lengths to hide their work. The makers of one infamous piece of spyware, CoolWebSearch (or CWS) used to rewrite their software to deliberately make it impossible to remove using conventional spyware rremoval tools. This is wrong, and people shouldn\’t have to put up with this.
I follow this issue very closely, and am ultraparanoid about clicking on anything on a website. I know for a fact that there are a lot of websites where, if I were to leave ActiveX turned on, I would get creamed by spyware, even without clicking on anyting or doing anything at all!
If anyone wants some good info, there\’s a site called spywareinfo.com that keeps up with this issue.
A lot of people have accused E Spitzer of unnecessary meddling in things and going over the top but in this case I am totally behind him 100%.
This is invasion of privacy-you can get arrested for that. How would these scumbags like it if you and I stood outside their house all day and night staring through the window? Now thats a good way of getting them to stop-publish the private addresses of the CEO\’s and cCFO\’s etc. Go Go Elliot!

Spitzer for President!
I\’d vote for him ….
Yay for him. Wonder if this means he\’s moved on from insurance companies…. At least we provide a meaningful product.
Unfortunately, we allow most of these installations unwittingly by \”agreeing\” to the license agreements on the various websites we use.

This is akin to what the Tabacco companies were pulling
