I was beginning to think Ms Baker might have some really good points, and perhaps had done her homework until she spoke about the Long Island Express of 1938 and Bob in 1991. The vast majority of the damage from the un-named hurricane of 1938 (that was before hurricanes had names) was NOT covered by insurance. Most of the damage was caused by tidal surge. And although I wasn\’t selling insurance in those days, I understand that windstorm coverage wasn\’t even as good then as it us today.
The bigger faux pas was mentioning Hurrince Bob. Bob just barely touched the South Fork of Long Island and caused very little damage. Long Island gets more damage from a typical Nor\’easter.
However, in 1985, Hurricane Gloria caused far more damage.
Ms Baker could garner a lot more credibility if she made better references.
As an ex-historian, I now clen floors for a basic living, I was impressed with your reply. I worked with Lloyds for over 14 years and was never impressed with their ability to \’modelled\’ future events let alone account for the past.
Sorry Dorson-King, but there is no such thing as an \”ex-historian.\” Once an historian, always an historian. It\’s sort of like when people talk about alcoholism, they always refer to themselves as \”recovering alcoholics.\” It\’s in your blood, and no amount of floor cleaning can erase it… lol
