Darwin Professional Underwriters, Inc., in Farmington, Conn., has expanded its partnership with New York-based American Professional Agency to provide a professional liability insurance program for mental health professionals.
Darwin already has a similar program through APA for psychiatrists.
The new program is available in all states on an admitted basis. Eligible mental health professionals include psychologists, marriage and family counselors, school counselors, employed counselors, bachelor’s-level employed counselors, clergy and pastoral counselors, certified hypnotists, sex counselors, psychoanalysts, and employed marriage and family therapists.
The product features include coverage of expenses for disciplinary hearings before a state or licensing board, coverage for civil proceedings where a deposition testimony is required regarding treatment rendered, and coverage for third-party civil proceedings requiring subpoenaed testimony. Other highlights include a broad definition of claims trigger as incident-based, meaning that a claim can be made through the report of an incident.
Darwin also offers as premium credits for completion of risk management and continuing education programs.
Darwin is a specialty insurance group which underwrites directors and officers liability for public and private companies, errors and omissions liability insurance, and medical malpractice liability insurance.
APA specializes in professional liability for those in the mental health field.
