Marsh Appoints Five Execs to Lead Middle Market Operations

Insurance broker and risk advisor Marsh Inc. announced the appointment of five senior insurance brokerage executives to lead the firm’s Middle Market operations in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, San Francisco, and the Carolinas.

Henry N. Watkins, Jr. will lead Marsh’s Middle Market operations in New York; Kevin Daley takes charge in Los Angeles; Samuel D. Daume, Jr., in Boston; Mark Freeman, in San Francisco, and James P. Breeney, in the Carolinas.

Watkins, who has 26 years of experience in insurance and related risk advisory roles, was vice president and Northeast Regional director of Hilb Rogal & Hobbs (HRH). He began his career in 1981 as an underwriter with Chubb & Son insurance. In 1988, he moved to the brokerage side, joining Barney & Barney in San Diego. A year later, he joined Johnson & Higgins, where he held positions in Los Angeles and Stamford, Conn., before moving to Marsh in 1994 as a Middle Market client executive. In 2002, he joined HRH and moved through the ranks to gain regional responsibilities.

Daley, who has 13 years insurance industry experience, joins Marsh from American International Group, where he had regional leadership responsibilities for one of the firm’s property/casualty operations in Los Angeles. Earlier, he was an assistant vice president in AIG’s Middle Market Division in Atlanta, Ga. He began his career with Chubb Group, where he eventually became assistant vice president of the Personal Lines Division. Subsequently, he held leadership roles in the technology and financial services industries before joining AIG.

Daume joins Marsh from Aon Risk Services Inc., where he was a managing director and resident sales director for New England and Upstate New York. Previously, he was with Marsh in Boston as a client executive and leader of the office’s Higher Education and Financial Institutions Practices. Earlier, for 13 years, Daume worked at Brewer & Lord LLP, an independent insurance agency in New England, ultimately serving as senior vice president and division executive responsible for the firm’s Commercial Sales and Service unit. He began his career in 1986 with Chubb as an underwriter.

Freeman has more than 27 years of experience in the insurance industry. Most recently, he was with Arthur J. Gallagher in San Francisco, where he was area president. Earlier, he was with Acordia for 13 years, rising through the management ranks to become Southwest Area director. He began his insurance career with Farmers Insurance and held various positions in claims, including senior field claims representative. Subsequently, he joined Rollins, Burdick, Hunter (a predecessor to Aon) as senior vice president and continued to advance his career in insurance brokerage.

Breeney, who will be based in the Charlotte, N. C., office, has more than 25 years of experience in insurance. Most recently, he was executive vice president of U.S. regional operations for Aon Risk Services. He began his career with Wausau Insurance Company and later moved to Marsh, where he held a variety of positions, including sales leader for Middle Market operations in Connecticut. Subsequently, he joined Alexander & Alexander, where he became head of the Carolinas’ operation and was Southeast Regional Practice leader.
