W. Russ Smith, CPCU, formerly vice president – claims for USAA, has been named the new president and chief executive officer of Arbitration Forums, Inc. (AF), effective March 3, 2008. Smith succeeds D. Kay Smith, who served as AF’s president for eleven years.
The Tampa-based AF, identifies itself as the largest arbitration service organization in the country, resolving more than 470,000 inter-insurance company disputes annually, with a claim value of over $2.2 billion.
Smith is a veteran insurance professional who began his career in 1976 as a claims adjuster with Amica Mutual Insurance Co. He joined USAA in 1987 and held senior positions in staff and operations. As vice president, claims, Smith was responsible for policy and procedures for all claim functions at USAA.
Smith has served on numerous insurance industry committees, including the American Insurance Association Casualty Claims and Property Claims Subcommittees, FJUA, FRPCJUA, CPIC committees on claims and quota share and the Florida Claims Manager Assn.
