Davidow, Shea Picked to Lead Medicus Insurance Company

Eugenie Shea joined Austin, Texas-based medical liability insurer Medicus Insurance Company as president and chief operating officer. In addition to her responsibilities as president and COO, Shea will also serve as executive vice president of the parent company, Medicus Insurance Holdings Inc.

Sheldon Davidow has taken on the role of chief executive officer of the insurance company and will move up to CEO of the holding company in August. Davidow is a co-founder of the company along with chairman and CEO Howard Lamb, who is retiring in August 2008.

Lamb will continue in a consulting role to Medicus and help develop its future growth.

Shea has nearly 30 years of experience in medical professional liability insurance and has served in senior management roles in all facets of insurance management including: market development, product development, claims, risk management and underwriting.

Prior to joining the Medicus team, Shea was the head of Catlin Group Inc.’s medical professional liability underwriting agency in Houston, where she directed the operations for its primary healthcare professional liability program through Catlin Underwriting Agencies in the U.S. Shea has also held senior management positions with Gallagher Healthcare, Advocate, MD Insurance Company, Farmers Insurance Group, NORCAL Mutual Insurance Company and the Doctors Company.

Medicus Insurance is licensed to offer professional liability insurance in 12 states and plans to continue expanding into new markets. Medicus is an admitted insurance carrier with rates and forms approved in Texas, Illinois, Indiana, Nevada, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Utah, and West Virginia; and Certificate of Authority in Arizona, Arkansas and Nebraska.
