Wouldnt it be better to spend those tens of millions to mitigate hurricane damage?
Make homes and businesses better able to withstand the hurricane force winds? Thats a one time investment that keeps on paying.
Well if they need millions more to help with hurricane forcasting did they ever look at all the damage caused this past month to the countries mid-section?
Sounds like the the hurricane forcasters are just looking for a reason to infuse some doe ray me into their pockets.
As the saying goes- everyone talks about the weather but there is really nothing we can do about it. So why give these guys that caused so many problems in our business millions just to try and get some new toys?
Every mile of coastline that is subjected to a hurrican warning cost $1,000,000 in preparations.
Improving forecasts will cut down on the size of the cone that the Weather forecasters issue – thus leading to a savings of money. FEMA will be able to better position relief supplies to the correct area. Fewer Gulf oil rigs may need to be shut down keeping the supply of oil as high as possible (remember how gas went up after Katrina and Rita).
I feel very sorry for the individuals who who have been flooded this year, but hurricanes cause far more damage that floods and tornado’s combined.

Please explain how the ability to accurately forecast the intensity of a hurricane will help? What good will it do?

Hurricane forecasting is fine just as it is. Screw these eggheads. If they want more toys to play with they can buy them themselves.
