LIU Launches Global Crisis Risk Management Initiative

September 8, 2008

Liberty International Underwriters (LIU), part of Liberty Mutual Group, has launched a global crisis risk management initiative that introduces new products such as kidnap, ransom and extortion; contaminated products; and product recall.

LIU’s new products, along with the trade credit, political risk, and terrorism products currently underwritten by LIU Europe and Liberty Syndicates in London, will be offered via LIU’s global platform.

Unique to LIU is its partnership with multiple crisis management service groups that have operations throughout the U.S., Europe, Asia and Latin America. These companies will provide LIU clients with local experts familiar with the unique geographic, regulatory, and political climate in various jurisdictions around the world.

LIU’s kidnap, ransom and extortion (K&R/E) service provider, NYA International (formerly Neil Young and Associates), a G4S company, provides governments, international corporations and private individuals around the world with abduction, K&R/E prevention, training, and response services. LIU’s product contamination and product recall partner, red24, is one of the leading response firms in this specialty niche area and will provide LIU clients with a range of information based risk mitigation services via an online portal.

“Our internal and external experts work with brokers and their clients to develop relevant strategies to help avoid and, if necessary, manage a major crisis globally,” said Gordon McBurney, president of Liberty International Underwriters. “We also designed our crisis management suite to align with the full line of commercial insurance products offered by LIU and Liberty Mutual. Brokers can now come to us for crisis coverage and go back to their clients with a complete commercial insurance package.”

LIU also announced that Louis Lubrano will serve as senior vice president of Global Crisis Management. LIU’s team of crisis management professionals have more than 30 years experience in underwriting and servicing of this line of business.
